Visiting the UK

The UK is one of the most visited countries in the world. A UK visit visa, also known as Entry Clearance Visa, allows a person to travel and stay in the UK.  We provide advice and support to foreign nationals who wish to visit the UK for the following reasons:

  • General visitors or Tourists

  • Family visitors (including Child visitors)

  • Student visitors

  • Sports persons

  • Actors and actresses

  • Business and Special visitors
  • Medical treatment in the UK

Any foreign national wishing to come to the UK regardless of whether one is a Commonwealth or non- visa national, is required to obtain a visa regardless of the intended length of stay in the UK. An application for entry clearance at a British Embassy or Consulate in the country of origin or usual residence must be made prior to travel.

The Entry Clearance applications process can be complicated as the Entry Clearance Officer has a wide range of powers under the Immigration Rules. These applications require the foreign national meeting the immigration requirements as well as providing the appropriate documentary evidence to support the application. In the absence of legal advice, applicants often overlook important evidence resulting in the application being refused. The consequence of refusal is that any future application will be scrutinised much more than the first application. The Entry Clearance Officer can sometimes choose to interview an applicant prior to making a decision. This experience can be stressful if one is unprepared and not knowledgeable to the requirements.

The duration it takes for applications to be considered depends on how busy the British Embassy is. However, the Home Office set standard is that 65 per cent of applications would be considered within 4 weeks after an application is made.
