European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals and their Families

European Union Law allows nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Swiss nationals and their family members freedom of movement to study and work in the UK.

Nationals of the following countries can benefit from the European Union Law:

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Check Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, the Republic of Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and  United Kingdom. Although Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are not members of the European Union (EU), their citizens have the same rights as EU Citizens to enter, live and work in the UK.

EEA Nationals have the right to seek employment, take employment or set up a business in any EEA country. They also have the right to reside, if they have enough money to support themselves throughout their stay without any assistance from public funds. EEA nationals’ family members can also enter and work in the UK without any restrictions, just like British citizens as long as they abide by the procedural arrangements in the host country.
